SEEDS: Strategic Evolution of ESE DATA Systems
(Formerly NewDISS: New Data and Information Systems and Services)
ESDSWG Technology Needs and Infusion Plans Study Team Purpose Approach Schedule Status Documents
Purpose
- Define and implement technology infusion processes for ESDSWG that
result in effective use of newly developed technologies to meet Earth
science and application demands for flexible, cost effective data systems
- Define processes to infuse new technologies into the evolving
ESE data systems. Develop strategies to bridge the funding gap between
technology development and operational use (TRL 7-9) to eliminate
orphaning of promising technologies
- Define and conduct community-based processes to identify needed capabilities and technologies. Facilitate the creation of a capability vision for ESDSWG to guide technology infusion efforts.
- Determine the roles of ESTO AIST and ESDSWG with regard to prototyping needs.
-
Engage the ESE community through workshops, working groups, and projects
- ESDSWG public workshops
- AIST workshops
- REASoN CAN technology infusion working group
- REASoN CAN technology infusion projects
-
Leverage current ESTO AIST processes
- Evaluate the AIST strategic planning process relative to ESDSWG needs
- Get ESDSWG representation at the annual ESE AIST Projections Workshop
- Review AIST capability needs database in light of ESDSWG concepts
- Designate roles of ESTO AIST and ESDSWG with regard to prototyping needs
